What's the difference between MPEG-4 and H.264? Which has higher quality and which has greater compression?

MPEG4 is a group of formats, each defined as a 'part'. The most common form is MPEG4 part 2. The highest level of compression format, MPEG4 part 10, is commonly known as H.264.
